A good spray tan is half application, half what you do at home. Follow these and your color fades smooth and even instead of patchy.
Shower, exfoliate, and shave or wax 24 hours ahead so your skin is clean and the surface is smooth. Skip lotion, oil, makeup, deodorant, and perfume on the day of. They sit on the skin and block the solution from setting evenly. Come in loose, dark clothing and dark flat shoes.
Leave the solution on for the full develop time: 8 hours for a standard tan, 1 hour for the Rapid. Stay dry. No sweating, no workouts, no washing your hands more than you have to. Pat dry if you get caught in the rain, never rub. Sleep in loose clothing if your tan develops overnight.
Rinse with warm water only, no soap, no scrubbing, until the water runs clear. The bronzer washing off is normal. That is the surface color, not your actual tan. Pat dry with a towel and moisturize right after.
Moisturize twice a day, morning and night, starting after that first shower. Hydrated skin holds color longer and fades uniformly. Use a fragrance-free, oil-free lotion. Avoid anything with retinol, acids, or added oils, which break a tan down faster. A gradual tan extender can stretch your color a few extra days.
Long hot baths, pools and hot tubs (chlorine lifts color fast), saltwater, and any physical or chemical exfoliant: scrubs, loofahs, exfoliating gloves, glycolic or salicylic products. Keep showers short and warm rather than hot, and blot dry instead of rubbing.
A standard tan looks its best for about 7 to 10 days, the Rapid for 5 to 7. For continuous color, rebook every 1 to 2 weeks. Lightly exfoliate the old tan off the day before your next appointment so the new one goes on clean.
